Ubuntu has already been installed on new laptop,great distro...all my hardware works fine!
(a few minutes ago,trying with Debian failed)

playing w\ GNOME or GTK applications seem well.

But Apache,PHP,MySQL aren't installed yet

Installing Apache 2

$ apt-get install apache2

Installing PHP 5

$ apt-get install php5

Installing MYSQL 4

$ apt-get install mysql-server
$ apt-get install libapache2-mod-auth-mysql
$ apt-get install php5-mysql

When I'm trying on coding with PHP to connect mysql server,the browser shows error at mysql_connect();

fairly easy to solve this problem

you might need to edit the PHP configuration file to get PHP and MYSQL talking :

$ vi /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini

and remove the ";" for the line ";extension=mysql.so",

after that

$ apache2ctl restart
